Main Statement

As followers of Jesus Christ, we can rest in the assurance that no matter what the future may hold, we are secure in Him. Let us be wise, but not fear, while we continue to be the hands and feet of Jesus to our city and world.

With COVID-19 taking center stage in the news media, we understand your concerns, and we want to make sure that those with health risks are protected the best we can. While it's good to stay informed, don't allow the overabundance of media reports (which are sometimes confusing and/or contradictory) to create fear in your heart. In times like these, we as believers are to stay anchored in the truth of God's Word so that our fearless faith speaks to those around us. We are continuing to monitor the situation daily and we will follow recommendations from federal, state and local government agencies, should they be given.

What WE are doing as a church

1. TRUSTING GOD: It is important to keep perspective and not panic. No matter how dire circumstances get, the Lord remains our refuge and strength, “an ever-present help in trouble” (Ps. 46:1).

2. PRAYING: While there may be some over-hyping of the fear, this is also a very real and potentially dangerous virus. Hundreds of thousands have been affected worldwide and we should be in fervent prayer for those who have contracted this virus or been in contact with it in some way. Pray for our healthcare workers who don’t have the option of staying home. And pray for our leaders to make wise choices in the handling of this outbreak. As Christians, we believe prayer has power, and prayer changes things.

3. STAYING INFORMED: The media is aflame with daily updates (sometimes confusing and/or contradictory). We are following a list of information for educational, planning and management purposes.

  1. CDC on COVID-19: The US Center for Disease Control’s up-to-date resources on coronavirus.

  2. CDC Resources for Community and Faith-Based Organizations: The CDC has also created resources specifically for faith-based organizations to respond to COVID-19 which are applicable in this situation.

  3. Managing Anxiety Around Coronavirus Coverage: The American Psychological Association created this resource to help manage anxiety around coverage of COVID-19.

  4. Addressing Mental Health Issues: This resource from the Mental Health and Psychosocial Support Network provides guidelines for addressing mental health issues that may arise, and offers advice for messaging, including among children, older adults, people with disabilities, and those in quarantine.

4. PREPARING: Because COVID-19 likely spreads like the cold and the flu, personal hygiene is very important among staff, volunteers, and participants in our services and those attending events on our church grounds (washing hands, avoiding contact with the sick, staying home if you’re sick, and so on). We’re also implementing CDC recommendations on our routine cleaning practices to include all frequently touched surfaces including countertops, doorknobs, and toys in KidsLife. In addition to these practical steps, we’re also doing the following:

  1. We’re reviewing all of our communication practices with the congregation and implementing appropriate communication when appropriate – like this webpage and live streaming service.

  2. We’re adjusting our greeting practices in our meeting time and encouraging everyone to smile, wave, air-fist bump and air-five as a preferred greetings over handshake or other common physical greetings. No touchy-touchy.

We know these are difficult times to navigate for our families. However, the mission of God is still worth giving our lives to. We hope that you continue to contribute to what God is doing through Calvary Baptist by: Inviting, Evangelizing, Discipling, and Giving your tithes and offerings online.

"1 Moreover, brethren, we make known to you the grace of God bestowed on the churches of Macedonia: 2 that in a great trial of affliction the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded in the riches of their liberality. 3 For I bear witness that according to their ability, yes, and beyond their ability, they were freely willing, 4 imploring us with much urgency that we would receive the gift and the fellowship of the ministering to the saints. 5 And not only as we had hoped, but they first gave themselves to the Lord, and then to us by the will of God."

(2 Corinthians 8:1-5)

Giving to the Kingdom of God

What YOU can do

1. Pray: for our community and those directly affected by COVID-19. Pray for the health care workers that are treating the sick and those public health administrators making difficult decisions. Pray that God would protect our community from further spread of the virus.

2. Reflect Christ: In these anxious days, the body of Christ can shine as a light of hope, strength, faith, and peace . We can demonstrate for the world how our faith provides true assurance against worry and fear. Don't panic, and don't fear!

3. Practice recommended personal hygiene:

  1. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

  2. Stay home if you are not feeling well.

  3. Cover your mouth and nose with your forearm when coughing and sneezing.

  4. Wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds at a time. Use soap and water when possible.

  5. If no soap and water are available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with 60%-95% alcohol.

  6. Stay home if you’re sick and enjoy our service online: Again, all sermons are posted by 1:00 p.m. on Sunday and we are working on other solutions to connect together from the comfort of our homes

4. Live with the spirit of generosity: We are searching for opportunities to help others and will be asking for you help in this endeavor. As always you can give online at

5. Keep your own heart encouraged by spending time with the Lord in prayer, reading His Word and worshiping, daily! Remember, FAITH over FEAR every time in every situation.
